Excursions

The value of structured lessons in the classroom and time for personal study is clear, but we believe that these methods of learning are best combined with a variety of other experiences. As part of each course, we offer several afternoon excursions and activities every week and one full day excursion every Saturday. These differ depending on which course you take, but are chosen carefully to help you practise and build on the English you have learnt. Of course, because we are a small organisation and have a high level of flexibility, we are quite happy for you to request trips that interest you.

For every excursion, students are given a worksheet and/or task sheet, both of which allow students to practise what they have learnt whilst also being introduced to new words and phrases. This is an optional activity - we do understand that people vary in their enthusiasm for structured learning, and some wish to focus on sightseeing without the feeling of homework hanging over them. However, the worksheets and task sheets are an excellent way to expedite learning, so we do recommend them, especially if it is important to you to advance quickly.

Activities vary greatly, but most will involve conversation practise and learning new vocabulary. Please do not feel you have to take part in any activities we suggest; we want you to enjoy your stay and try to arrange activities we think you will enjoy, but if you feel you want to spend time studying, relaxing, or exploring - please feel free to do so!

Local Area

Afternoon trips taken during the week are usually to places of interest in the local area. These trips allow you to combine sightseeing with learning English! You will always be accompanied by one of us, and since the maximum number of students we take at any one time is four, you will have plenty of opportunity for conversational practice. In addition to this, we offer you the option of task-sheets should you wish to practise more than just conversation during your excursion! Please click here to see some of the places we visit.

Weekend Excursions

As part of your course, we organise a full day trip every Saturday, giving you the option to really see some of England. Our most recommended trip is to London, but we also often visit several places in the local area that would not be done justice without a full day! Activities

We offer various activities during the week for you to enjoy; some of these are based in the main building and others we take you elsewhere.  Please click here to find out more.

Other Options

We offer the option of further exploring England whilst you are staying with us -- for example spending a few days on a boat -- or commissioning a tutor to travel with you, wherever you want to go. These options are by arrangement only and not included in the course fee. Please click here to find out more.
